Epilogue: A New Day
In the end, hope triumphed over hate. A new pantheon of gods, gathered from all corners of the universe, came together to unlock the ultimate power and it it flow over the land once more. They proved one goddess that her wisdom was correct, and another that her wisdom was keeping her trapped in a vision of the world that would never be.
You exit the temple of Olympus, battered and bruised, but more together than ever before. Athena raises her hand and drags it before her. In the distance, the keen-eyed will see the barrier that's long protected you finally fading away.
The sun shines down. Two months and you're finally, finally free.
Athena takes care to thank each of you personally. This was exactly what her and Fenyx had theorized was possible - not exactly, but the outcome is greatly acceptable. And now, Athena is bound by her oath to return you home... or wherever it is you'd like to go. You're gods now, you have the privilege.
Speaking of! Once everyone's rested and healed, Fenyx prepared a little get-together for everyone on the cliffs, with a special bonus: they can bring in any person you desire. Family and friends are preferable, but who are they to question if you want to smack your rival across the face for the first time in weeks?
They may react in confusion, however, if you tell them about the bits of Hope buzzing in the air like glowing fireflies. They're not gods, after all. They can't see them.
Dipping lower around half-day, you may peer over the side of the area and see far, far down into the valleys of ocean and cities. And beyond all of that, sailing in from the horizon, ships. Old ships of man-made nature. Sails billowing in a wind that no longer tears them asunder. Now that the storm has passed, life can resume picking up the pieces.
It will be messy, probably a disaster at times, but there's always hope. And if that carried you here, then maybe it will bring those people to the top of the mountain.
[This is the final post of Let's Play A Murder! Players are welcome to invite cast members to this log for the purpose of tagging out reunions (Fenyx and Athena will have personally greeted and asked to bring them here). You may tag this at your leisure, whatever last-minute endeavors you'd like your characters to get into will go here.
Thank you for playing.]

no subject
I just want to hug you for a while.
no subject
[She is getting engulfed by his arms]
We... have not really been able to reunite properly, have we?
[Tears start beading in his eyes... oh, he is really here. And so is she]
Oh Velvet... I am... so, so sorry. I was such a reckless fool...
no subject
[ She won't deny that when they both know it. Velvet hugs back tightly, as though she's afraid to let go of him. ]
...Please don't leave me behind ever again...
no subject
[She might be getting a little squished]
I was so scared... all the time. I should have trusted in you and the others and spoke my mind instead of acting on my own. Certainly if you wished to bind my pathetic soul it would be well deserved!
[Oh calm down drama king]
no subject
[ Especially when she can actually make it happen. ]
...Was it running away, in a sense?
cw: suicidal impulses/ideation
In a sense, I think so. Not from you- never from you. But... I was convinced that I had to die for a Purpose. That dying was something that was coming no matter what, and if I could control the when and why it would...I do not know. Mean something? That I could save you all.
... the idea that I could live, no matter how much I wanted to, never occurred. It was like I was taken by some kind of madness.
cw: suicidal impulses/ideation
If there's always an ending, then the least they could do is do it on terms they consider more equitable, no? ]
...Then I'm glad that I met you here.
[ And not in some other place or circumstance where that madness would have surely twisted his noble soul. Where his radiance would have surely been tainted by death's majesty. ]
no subject
And do not worry, Quark has wringed a promise from me to speak any strange thoughts rather than attempt anything so "noble" again.
no subject
[ She wriggles free from the crushing hug just enough to grab Ferdinand's head and lean in to touch their foreheads. ]
no subject
[ he allows the head touching for a moment... then gives into his less dangerous impulses and goes for a kiss]
no subject
...But she doesn't seem to mind, given how she's kissing back, fingertips gripping the sides of his head a little tighter. ]
no subject
But any such good manners are tossed aside now, his head tilting into the kiss in silent request for entry. He's been starving this past two weeks]
no subject
Maybe some of it was fueled by the desire to take while she still could, the silent reminder deep in her heart leaning over her shoulder to remind her that she was too ugly and too damaged to be cherished for life. Eventually the sun would be too bright for her to bear, and...surely she was too difficult for even Ferdinand to keep loving. Best grab hold of whatever affection she could until it was inevitably sundered, right?
But Ferdinand has overcome death to return to her, and suggested he wants her as a bride—even if it might have been a spur-of-the-moment impulse, her lifelong fantasy-forbidding pessimism struggles to discredit his adoration for her in the face of material facts. Her lips part to let him in; if Ferdinand is starving, Velvet is more than happy to sate him. ]

no subject
Ha... we maybe should not do this here.
[Or he's going to end up in a LOT of trouble.]
no subject
Ah...
[ ...Right, people can see them here. ]
We can go to our room?
no subject
[Oops]
I mean- yes, that seems wise.
no subject
[ Wow, the rare and elusive giggle!
Velvet gives Ferdinand a quick kiss on the cheek, then releases her grip in his hair to take his hand. ]
You really missed me, huh. Let's go.
no subject
I did... so very much.
[he lets her lead the way]
no subject
...It was hard to sleep without you.
[ To say nothing about the hallucinations. ]
no subject
[Guilt bubbles back into his heart. he's already been so lucky that she does not seem to hate him- he should hope not considering what they were sneaking off for]
no subject
...I thought I'd be angrier with you, at first. And I was, I think. [ But Ferdinand already knew that, judging by the letter he left her. ] If...it had happened earlier, I might have felt like a fool for letting myself fall in love, even though I should have known better.
[ Or "known better", rather. Sometimes she isn't sure if the dark lessons she learnt from her time with the Lover have truly left her. ]
But... [ Her fingers tighten around his. ] Instead of wishing I had never met you, I was thinking about how to find you again. So I could make you understand how irreplaceable you are to me, even if I had to chain your soul. The old me would have simply given up.
[ And to make it clear, Velvet stops for a moment so she can kiss Ferdinand's cheek. ] So... It just made it clear how quickly you became a part of my life.
no subject
I was a fool... if later you wish to punish me, I will accept it.
... but I do not know if I could accept it if you decided to leave.
[he knows he SHOULD be willing to. She has every right. But the idea makes him feel ill. He lacks her power to bind a soul.]
no subject
Have you forgotten? I intend to indulge your foolishness for the rest of our lives.
[ She has no plans on leaving. ]
