Event 1: Gods and Monsters
[Time is a bit difficult to measure in this place. The storms that rage beyond your safe barrier, overtaking the horizon with their shifting lights and shadows, aren't doing it any favors. If you were to ask Athena, she'd say it's been about a week since your arrival. And since then... there's been scant signs of things improving.
Today, you wake up to quiet. No drone of distant winds. Not even birdsong breaches your bedrooms. Like a inhaled breath, the world seems to have paused.
And then, it exhales. The ground under your feet trembles and shakes. Dirt flies. Rocks shower down from the direction of the cliffs.
There, like an open wound stabbed into the earth, was a large crack where there wasn't before, spilling out an oppressive red light. Stranger still, some larger rocks are floating over the opening itself.
...Investigate?]

You and my former employers might have had a lot to talk about, there. Much of the Ushiromiya family's wealth came from being in the right place and knowing the right people, in times of war and rebuilding. [ a sip, and a soft exhaled laugh. ] So I've been told, at least. I have little experience with such things myself... it was all long before my time.

[it's not that there's admiration in his voice; in fact, it sounds pretty neutral]
Like Rule of Acquisition Number 35 says: Peace is good for business.

Being able to speak the same language as the occupying forces, when you've just had ten tons of gold fall into your lap to use as collateral? It opens doors, I'm told.

[he does not sound judgy about that at all lmao, it's just the obvious move to make.]
