Week seven
After that particularly hectic trial, if it could even be called that, you were free to go your own way. The sun had set on Ferdinand and Omega's attempt to enact vengeance upon Typhon, and while your combined efforts were clearly enough to damage him, he managed to slink off with both of your former companions. No doubt, probably licking his wounds, or whatever the Titan plans to do in his refuge between the realms.
It's another new week on the island. Outside, things have continued to change - standing by the cliffs will reveal that not only has the water against the rocks receded further, but the entire ocean has as well. You hear birdsong in the distance, and even the plants have turned greener despite the drawbacks from Typhon's trickery. No matter the horrors everyone's experienced, it seems the island continues to grow healthier.
There's still time to enjoy the benefits that provides. Down on the deepest level, the stairs to... How odd. The stairs still refuse you passage. Looks like there's no new floor to investigate this week!

Unfortunately, this is happening now and it's going about as well (read: badly) as she expected. Maybe if she walks away fast enough, "Ferdinand" will follow her and she'll be spared dealing with the Lover too— ]
Wistful Dream Shrouded in Velvet. [ The voice is calm, even, but cold. Velvet stops in her tracks out of sheer reflex. ] I see you've taken in a guard dog.

[he hisses. He doesn't have the weapon on him, but what does logic matter for a dream? Apparently the comparison to a dog, like always, doesn't bother him]

[ But her tone isn't so much of refusal as it is of fear. Even if this is just a hallucination, she doesn't want to see what she knows will be undeniably messy, ugly, and end in inevitable defeat.
The Lover's expression is difficult to read, but she tilts her head in...understanding? Curiosity? Velvet doesn't fucking know. ]
Ah. So you've grown attached to him, too.
[ Velvet makes this almost desperate gesture to the hallucinatory Ferdinand to just follow her, since it's not like she can actually grab his hand to pull him along. Just walk away and find some people (or no, maybe she shouldn't, there's no guarantee the Lover will be gone by then) and ride this out—
When she turns back around to keep walking away, the Lover is suddenly in front of her, and she lets out a startled shriek. ]
...Unacceptable. It's only been a year, yet you've already forgotten.

Enough, she does not wish to speak to you anymore!

Instead, she arches an eyebrow as she watches Velvet's reaction, leaning in to study her. Why Velvet hasn't raised a hand against her, the real Ferdinand probably could guess. ]
...Of course, not just attached to him, but love him. [ And for the first time in this encounter, the Lover's frigid tone belies something far more insidious. There is so much venom in the word "love" that the contrast is jarring. ] So much so that you've suddenly remembered you have a spine.
I...I don't serve you anymore, just leave us be...
You should know by now that I do not take my reputation being tarnished lightly. But then again, if you had, you probably wouldn't have been so foolish as to simply walked out on me. [ The Lover isn't actually real, of course, but the hallucination reaches over to grab Velvet's chin. A meaningless gesture that nonetheless has Velvet shivering in fear out of kneejerk reflex. ] Tell me, then. Why go so far for a man who abandoned you?
[ Velvet immediately tries to snap back, but the looks in her eyes says that on some level, those words strike true. ] He didn't!
Really, now? He spoke to you so much of how he wanted you to start over with him. How he ached for that future with you. Yet he went along with, insisted on, even, that foolish plan and died after giving letting you taste hope again, did he not? How is that anything but irresponsibly leaving you behind?

I was trying to save her!!
no subject
If you had really cared about that, you'd still be here holding her close, no?
[ Velvet looks like something in her is crumbling.
...Ah, when had she become so weak?
Or perhaps it's better to say that now that she remembers what it's like to feel whole, there is something to shatter again. ]
