Week Two

Okay, maybe it hasn't been so easy. You've been enjoying a relatively pleasant time here with your fellow gods and Athena, only for a disgruntled Titan to seemingly pull the rug out from under that.

Despite the immediate threat from a hidden foe, you've managed to stave off their first attack. However, even if the grass may seem greener this week, or the sky a bit clearer, Athena can barely hide her troubled feelings. If this experiment is to be a success, what has to happen to make it that way?

You're all alive, though. That's worth celebrating, isn't it?

[That. Sure is a chicken.]

...The gods are giving out pets now?

[He lets out a little laugh.]

Adorable!

[...it's very difficult to tell if he's being sarcastic or not.]

So it would seem! I received this one along with some other items from my offerings today.

[Bwak bwak! She's perfectly content to poke around looking for treats. Zvei finally looks up from his writing.]

She is, isn't she?

[He's taking it 100% seriously.]

[He reaches out to pet the chicken.]

There was a dog and an owlbear that lived in our camp, when my companions and I were fighting the Absolute. The two of them used to play together constantly. It was quite cute.

...What is an owlbear? Besides, presumably, a combination of an owl and a bear?

[What would that even look like... He's imagining a bear with the face of an owl. Terrifying.]

Quite the description, isn't it?

It's a quadruped, like a bear, and has a bear's claws. But it also has the feathers and beak of an owl. Quite the ferocious predator. But the one we had in camp was a baby. It followed us back after we clear out a camp of goblins. They were tormenting the poor thing.

[A baby version of the horrifying monstrosity he's imagining... is it just smaller, then?? Huh.]

Why were the goblins tormenting it? I assume it didn't have a parent to fight them off?

Goblins are horrid cannibals who will eat humanoids. I don't care to know what they think, or why.

[Says the man who drinks blood.]

I assume they captured the cub. Maybe he strayed too far from his cave, it's hard to know.

[:thonk:]

Well, it's good he found a home with you and your companions! Speaking of, tell me about them!

How about I name them off, and you tell me who you'd like to know about. There are quite a few of them.

There's Tav. And after that there's Shadowheart, Wyll, Karlach, Lae'zel, Halsin, and then Jaheira and Minsc.

[a beat]

Oh, and Gale too, of course.

Let's start with Gale, then - since you nearly forgot them!

[oh my god.]

He's an idiot of a wizard who slept with a goddess, managed to offend her, and then in his tremendous wizardly wisdom managed to get a bomb stuck inside his chest.

...How did he manage that?

Hells if I know. He tried to give something he thought belonged to Mystra back to her, but it wasn't actually part of the Weave. And then it ended up in his chest.

forgotten realms is wild

[personal profile] pariunt 2025-07-23 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Mystra is the Weave; the source of magic. He thought he was bringing a part of her back, but he wasn't. Instead, he was trying to give her something that was never hers, but created by Karsus, the man who tried to usurp her predecessor, Mystryl.

Mystryl sacrificed herself rather than allow Karsus to succeed, and it caused magic to cease existing for a long time after.

apparently!!

[personal profile] necromants 2025-07-24 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Magic simply stopped existing? That's almost unbelievable... but considering how many truly wild things I've heard here, I assume it must have actually happened. How did it return to the world, when Mystra took over?
pariunt: (pic#17954954)

[personal profile] pariunt 2025-07-24 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
I assume Mystra taking the mantle of the Weave upon herself was what did it.

Ao doesn't seem to care who has the portfolios of gods, so long as someone does.
