Okay, maybe it hasn't been so easy. You've been enjoying a relatively pleasant time here with your fellow gods and Athena, only for a disgruntled Titan to seemingly pull the rug out from under that.

Despite the immediate threat from a hidden foe, you've managed to stave off their first attack. However, even if the grass may seem greener this week, or the sky a bit clearer, Athena can barely hide her troubled feelings. If this experiment is to be a success, what has to happen to make it that way?

You're all alive, though. That's worth celebrating, isn't it?

It's like ripping off a bandage: something actually happening is painful, but it's better that it happened than letting it stay.

[Not that Misane is a shining beacon of optimism. The process of getting jaded has begun]

Not especially, no. Blame my programming.

Did they need a particularly realist creation for the task...?

[Misane hasn't known many androids and AIs, but the one she knows is real cheerful. It didn't seem like she was meant to perform any task in particular, though!]

They needed a range of different personalities. We were meant to... compete. Well, a few of us, anyway.

If we were all the same, things would just stall out.

I was under the impression the point of creating artificial intelligences was to keep everything on rails and without any unpredictability. You're really surprising me.

[A whole lot of personalities competing sounds like it'd be such a hubbub of activity!]

The Paper Moon's a little different. We weren't programmed on purpose, so that doesn't help. Everyone there just sort of... happened.

Okay...

[That sounds so...unintentional. It's said it's a miracle life exists. Maybe this is a comparable miracle...?]

Erm...what's the Paper Moon's function?

Technically speaking, it's a map, but that's simplifying it a lot. It's a fully accurate monitoring device of Earth, which makes it possible to detect any abnormalities in both real and imaginary space.

So your role is to be part of an early-alarm system to watch out for any abnormalities that could...endanger Earth, I suppose.

[That's her deduction! She has no idea how close or how far she is from the truth, hah, but it sounds right!

She's absolutely picturing this far more technological and less magic-based than it actually is]

Essentially. Though these days it's less of an early-alarm and more of a constantly-going-alarm.

I suppose on a planet as big as Earth and in two, erm...planes of existence...?...there's always something dangerous going on.

[Well, yes but no, Misane, it's a constantly-going-alarm because it's /fate]

Well, yeah.

Right now the whole planet's pretty much a wreck, so...

As long as it's not a wreck caused by the likes of Typhon...
