Okay, maybe it hasn't been so easy. You've been enjoying a relatively pleasant time here with your fellow gods and Athena, only for a disgruntled Titan to seemingly pull the rug out from under that.

Despite the immediate threat from a hidden foe, you've managed to stave off their first attack. However, even if the grass may seem greener this week, or the sky a bit clearer, Athena can barely hide her troubled feelings. If this experiment is to be a success, what has to happen to make it that way?

[Quark is quiet for a moment, before he breaths out a slightly exasperated sigh, moving to sit down next to him]

It's not exactly a casual stroll down the prominade.

I jus- it was fuckin' hell, but I knew the rules, before, I knew how to- to fight, to stay safe, to- to keep her safe.

Now... It's a whole different ball game.

[Quark leans back on his hands] And the supposed rules are written down, but there's a whole 'nother set of them somewhere we can't see.

[ Alex snorts harshly. ]

That shit ain't rules, it's that fuck mocking us. No, this place... This place's gotta have its own. Something we can...trap him in, something, something.

[ He's desperate. ]

[Quark's eyes narrow at that, clearly thinking about it] The rules of this world. Or something like it. There's gotta be a reason he can't actually get to us himself, not really. Athena's barrier's a part of it, which means he's not as powerful as he likes to preach.

[rockymountaindie]

[ Nodding furiously. ]

That's how it- if you figure out how it works, how the laws work, you can- you can cheat it. If you can start to see it, you can cheat it, I just- I can't... I haven't seen here. Not like back home.

How did you figure it out back home?

[rockymountaindie]

[ He lets out a dry huff that could be mistaken for a laugh. ]

Trial and error. A lot of people had to die before I could even start fightin' back. Before I was lookin' hard enough to find the signs.

[Quark blows out a breath at that]

So we gotta do the same here, is what you're sayin'.

I- I don't know. I don't want- anyone to die.

[ But at the same time... ]

...But the only way to figure out how the rules work is...with examples. Data. A pattern. And this motherfucker sure ain't givin' us anything else but- fucking threats.

[ His eyes drop back to the parchment in his lap. The girl looking back at him. ]

Yeah. That and those skeletons.

[Quark pauses at that, looking thoughtful for a moment.]

...Just threats and skeletons. Not much else to show, yet.

[ A moment. ]

What, are you... What're you thinkin'?

I dunno if it's anything. He's kinda just been showing us a lot of hot air, that's all. [he folds his arms]

Maybe we should start takin' notes.

[rockymountaindie]

...Yeah. [ And this? This kind of...helps, it seems. Redirects that nervous energy, into— ]

Yeah. Yeah, just 'cause it's a different place, different stuff... That doesn't mean, there's not ways around it. We just gotta find 'em. We just gotta look in the right places, right ways, when- when the universe speaks, you listen.

[ For the first time since he'd seen the sculpture, the corner of Alex's mouth quirks up slightly. ]

[the corners of Quark's mouth curls up into a smirk]

I've got some of the best ears on the station, I'll have you know. I know practically everything that happens and then some.

[ After a moment, he glances down at his hands. ]

...Thanks, uh... Thanks for doing that, here.

[ Now. ]

[Quark blinks at that, startled. Hm???]

Of course I'm gonna do that here. Why wouldn't I?
