Week Three Meeting

[Welcome back to the Eatery. Perhaps the mood is more somber than it was during the last meeting in here, but once again there is food and (non-alcoholic) punch to go around. Quark, Wendy and Vanity occupy the head of the table, but there’s plenty of other seats for both those that helped set up and those that didn’t. Looks like it’s time to put your heads together again and hopefully sort some things out.

Once everyone’s seated and in attendance, Quark pushes to his feet.]

Alright, we’re all pretty tired after yesterday so I’m not going to draw this out. Let’s just get started. [and he motions at Vanity, before sitting back down]

WE GOT MOTIVE

Okay, so. Typhon canning sucks, and he’s moved on from stick to carrot.

[Vanity folds her arms tightly, leaning back against the counter.]

I’m not gonna fucking pretend this might not be tempting to some people, but let’s try to remember that if he could do that kind of shit there’s about zero percent chance he wouldn’t have undone his own defeat.

[Her foot taps a little, and she chews her lip for a moment.]

Also “reverse one event” is vague as hell, that could mean just about anything. Anyone else got something?

ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT MURDER FIRES

Following up on that, as has been pointed out, anyone here-

[She shoots Quark a look, just for a second. ]

Could decide to kill someone, or have an accident, or- hell, one of the fucking bats could get really pissy and determined. Shit can happen, is the point.

[Her gaze scans around the room.]

If anyone has ideas on helping prevent that, now’s the time to speak up.

INVESTIGATION RESULTS & NEW INFO

We’ve been here close to a month now. Anyone find anything new we should know about?

[She folds her arms.]

Not just stuff about the places we all talked about poking at last meeting, anything that might be useful.

ESCAPE ROUTE & WHEN TO USE IT

[Wendy has been relatively quiet as the other two speak. Then she brings out a sketched map of the areas they’ve seen. She brought some pencils to help others make marks on the map. She clears her throat, tapping it with a single finger.]

At some point we might need to run. If we have supplies, weapons, and have trained our abilities maybe we’ll be safe. Maybe not. That’s something I don’t know—and that’s scary, right? The unknown. That’s why we should have some plans in place before that happens. We need to find a way out of the barrier, first, so any ideas of how to do that or other methods of escape will be useful.

[She glances around at the people gathered then runs a hand through her hair.]

Of course that also means we should talk about our breaking point. What will be the point where we decide running is better than staying?

WORKING ON GOD POWERS

[Quark leans his hands on the table] So, about these god powers that we got. As far as I can tell, we’ve all been working on them separately, which means that not everyone has actually been able to grow theirs. For example, mine seem to rely on having someone to talk to. So we should have a time, I’m thinking the afternoon, maybe, when we actually work on those together. No point having them if we can’t figure out how to use ‘em.

COMBAT TRAINING

God powers are fine-

[Says the girl who can so far pass for a tape recorder.]

-but we should have more options available for the next time Typhon gets bored and just sends something to fuck us up. We know that’s a “when” now, not an if.

[Guy seems pretty impatient for a supposed immortal.]

A lot of us can fight already, but having everyone combat ready would be better. I’m proposing that those of us who can already fight- Saotome and Omega, NOT A FUCKING WORD- partner up with one or two people who can’t and get everyone up to speed on some basics.

EMERGENCY SUPPLIES

[phototraces]

[Wendy taps the side of the map, which has words written on it like ‘water, food, light, bandages’.] About that escape plan. We’ll need supplies for it and any other emergency. Non-perishable food. Water. Medical supplies. Maybe things to make a shelter. Fire making materials so we can make a fire in the wilderness. That kind of thing. This stash will also double as our emergency supplies; who knows what’s going to happen, who might die or vanish, after. I know the basics but that’s it… if we can get volunteers to start collecting things, that would help.

GENERAL CHATTER

[Looks up from his food like GURL HE WASN'T EVEN GONNA SAY ANYTHING. Least, not until you brought him up.]

What??? I'm not even disagreein' with'cha! That's actually a good idea.

... Well, where would we even run to? All you can see out there is the ocean.

We could set up people to patrol, make sure nobody gets up to anything stupid or gets themselves killed.

I COULD INTENSIFY PATROLS. INSTITUTE MANDATORY ROOM CHECKS. IMPLEMENT A VARIETY OF METHODS QUITE DRACONIAN AND INVASIVE.

SOMETHING TELLS ME THAT YOU WILL ALL FIND THAT QUITE DISAGREEABLE, HOWEVER.

[ Alex is kind of vibrating in his skin. That's not unnatural, yes, but... There's something different about it today, and when Vanity says speak up, he immediately launches into: ]

If anyone's got a- a gun, you gotta get rid of it, or hide it, or something. Anything that's...gun-like, or- or shit like that. I don't know how, but- a gun's going to kill someone, if we don't take precautions.

[Quark looks very distinctly uncomfortable at the idea, sinking into his seat a bit and folding his arms over his chest]

Even if there was something out there that isn't just ocean, do we even have the supplies to build a boat?

[Cause thus far he hasn't found one single hull of a boat, much less one fit to sail.]

Forgoing that, if we don't want to consider the ocean, there is the forest.

[She taps the map.]

Shouldn’t we try to get to the other side first?

[ Omega stands up. ]

I WOULD LIKE A WORD.

[ Omega pauses for a moment, before continuing. He eyes everyone in attendance, before continuing. ]

I WOULD LIKE TO FORMALLY APOLOGIZE FOR MY INITIAL BEHAVIOR DURING MY INITIAL TIME HERE. BOTH FOR ATTACKING EVERYONE AND FOR CARRYING QUARK AND CEREJEIRA INTO DANGER. THE FACT THAT MANY OF YOU HAVE GIVEN ME A CHANCE DESPITE ALL THAT, AND HAVE CHOSEN TO SOCIALIZE WITH ME DESPITE ALL THAT MEANS A GREAT DEAL TO ME. AND TO THOSE I HAVE WRONGED AND FRIGHTENED, AND CHOSEN TO GIVE ME NEW CHANCES, THAT MEANS A GREAT DEAL TO ME AS WELL.

I WAS MADE TO FIGHT, AND I KNOW LITTLE BEYOND AGGRESSION. ATHENA HAS GIVEN ME A CHANCE TO BE MORE THAN THAT. TO BE...A PROTECTOR. I HAVE NOT HAD MANY WHO HAVE BELIEVED IN ME BEFORE. I WANT TO MAKE HER PROUD. I WANT VERY DEARLY TO BELIEVE THAT SHE TRULY WANTS FOR ME TO REALIZE MY POTENTIAL.

FOR ANY OF YOU WHO STILL DON'T BELIEVE I AM TO BE TRUSTED...I ONLY HOPE I CAN STILL YET PROVE MYSELF TO YOU.

[ He bows with his whole body. ]

[ And he sits back down. ]

[ He looks like an exposed nerve right now, eyes flicking from person to person. They settle on Quark. ]

...I heard something. After...after that fucked up trial. No one else seemed to. But- there was a...a gunshot, and as far as I could tell, no one else heard it.

[ He shifts in his chair. ]

This happened back home a lot. I could...see things. Things others couldn't, about- things that'd foretell someone's death. They were always vague, and- and usually they happened immediately or pretty damn close to it. But nothing... I haven't seen or heard anything else since.

WHAT IF WE WERE TO CONSTRUCT A PORTAL BACK TO ONE OF OUR HOME UNIVERSES?
