It's really not so bad around here. Despite the sky, and the state of the land, things are fairly calm. You've got plenty of time to get used to it, and each other. Maybe this'll be easier than it seems.

[Firepit time! Misane, of course, will make sure there's no fire, dousing any if it's on, for some reason.

So, what options to investigate the firepit area do we have?]

[All that's left to burn is some smouldering embers. They hiss as they're finally extinguished.

As Ranma astutely put it; there isn't much ground to cover here. The pit sits in a dip of the ground, almost like a crater - in fact, many areas along the cliff are like it.

It's neat enough. Aside from the fire itself, there's several rounded logs to be made into makeshift chairs, if one were looking to spend an evening around the fire. Not much to say, but maybe underneath them...?]

[You know what they say, leave no stone, er, log unturned! Ranma'll do just that, lifting up one log to inspect underneath. Anything?]

[Congratulations, Ranma has discovered... dirt.

Wait, no. There's something there. It's small; nestled in the dirt but just barely catching the light. Something metallic and shiny.]

Ranma's gonna dig through the dirt with his hands to unearth it. Will he be able to gleam what it is?]

A jagged lightning bolt is printed into both sides. It shines like gold.]

[Ranma inspects the coin between his fingers, noting the different make than the ones given to them. Old currency from the world when it was still thriving, perhaps? If there's nothing else under the log, Ranma's turning to his bonfire investigating buddies while flicking the coin into the air like some two-faced comic villain.]

Yo, Alex, Misane. Take a look what I found.

We know Athena. Could this be related to Zeus...? He's traditionally associated with lightning.

[After Ranma passed it to Misane for examination, she gives it to Alex Here, Alex, as the assistant you get to hold evidence. The detective needs to have her hands free for doing things like digging into warm ash over there]

[Well, she can see a bit of detail: it's a coin. Looking around, she sees where the log was moved]

Good job. That would have been hard to find for most.

[Ranma flicks the coin to Misane to let her better examine it. She is the expert between the three of them when it comes to inspections. Also she praised him. That too.]

Part of me feels tempted to toss it into the horn of plenty area, but...losing potentially valuable evidence is bad.

[ Mostly a drive-by question for Alex's overly-cautious sensibilities... I've been assuming we're dealing with a stone fire pit here, to go with the whole Aesthetic. Is that correct?

And on that note! How old does it look? ]

[It's unfortunately not. There is some stone put into the fire pit itself, but the larger area here is primarily dirt and rock.

Whatever had been done to make it look this way, it's been quite some time. At least enough for dirt to settle into more reasonable shapes.]

No okay thank you, this is good to know! As Misane is doing a more in-depth look at the fire pit, Alex is mostly going to just monitor her and make sure she's safe! ]

[Better check the residues of the fire! To see if anything other than the expected stuff like firewood and the such has been burned. True, she doesn't have her Bitphone to help her investigate the composition of things, but hey, maybe she can see something, if she looks hard enough?]

[It's just normal wood. Split logs, and some tinder gathered from the nearby forests. The kind of thing you'd find at a campsite.]

I didn't expect to find much evidence since I don't have my Bitphone, but at least I can say nothing overly suspicious has gotten burned here...

[With her hand she moves the ashes around, but it doesn't seem like she's finding anything. Misane stares at ashes in my hand like she's trying to figure out its composition by staring very hard.

Just in case, she tries to dig right in the center of the firepit, like she's trying to see if anything has been buried here. It's a good place to bury something at -- bury something in the dirt and place a firepit right on top, to ensure nobody would look at. Nobody but Misane]

[Careful, it's still a bit toasty.

Within the ash and soot, Misane discovers... more ash and soot, until her hands eventually scrape the warm earth-- and something beneath that.

Something metal and hard, pressed into the ground.]

Alex, Ranma. Come here. Help me dig this up!

[Her investigative skills may have borne fruit! Without even giving much details, she's trying to get rid of as much ash as possible to see what's awaiting here! Oh, the exciting moment of discovery!]

[ The detective (apprentice) calls and the detective assistant answers!! Alex scurries over carefully, because he tries to do everything carefully, and starts digging around the metal object. ]

[I perused Ranma's thread up there after typing that stuff and now there's a chance Misane just called two people to help her dig up a coin, haha, whoooops. I'll justify it as her not wanting to make assumptions about anything, better safe than sorry]

Careful. There was a fire right above this, and this is metal.
