It's really not so bad around here. Despite the sky, and the state of the land, things are fairly calm. You've got plenty of time to get used to it, and each other. Maybe this'll be easier than it seems.

cornucopia

[ Alex is walking by the cornucopia. Not really going towards it? But. There's a sound. Something's inside of it, and that draws his attention. Head tilted, he approaches slowly, cautiously...

Aaaand gets himself a surprise! ]

M- Misane?! [ FULL ON DOUBLE-TAKE. ] Wh-what're you doing in there?!

[ He hurries over to see if she needs a hand out or if she's stuck. Because of course he does. ]

[Misane takes the hand that was offered to her. I have no idea how big this horn of plenty is, but given Misane is the smallest non-Mikalov person around here, she probably can fit in here, haha. Soon she's standing up, shrugging like she wasn't just inside the cornucopia horn]

Investigating. Of course.

[Like what she did is something anybody would do]

[ Oh, of course she can fit in and out of it fine, this is just, you know. Alex. His eyes sweep over her for any injuries, scrapes, or potential issues like a thread of her clothing getting caught somewhere. Constant vigilance or something. ]

But crawlin' inside... You coulda gotten stuck.

[Alex's constant vigilance is too late because the cornucopia horn cracks, and that will make it fall, and it'll roll onto a torch, pushing it over, and it'll cause a small fire, and Misane will stumble backwards into the other torch, and Death will claim a victim.

Okay no, that didn't happen]

A little bit of risk is always part of any investigation worth its salt.

[Yeah, she had no plan excepting shouting at people to help her, if she had gotten stuck, haha]

[ But what if it DID THOUGH. no no everything's fine. we're in peace week. ]

You still can't take that kinda risk, 'specially if you're gonna be doin' it alone. Call someone next time, okay?

[Misane looks like in her icon because despite everything she still is a fifteen year old and the concern for her makes her pout. She's not upset but there's enough rebellious teen energy in her for her to sulk when told not to do something by herself]

[ Oh no...has he grown up to become a killjoy? ]

Wh...c'mon, don't give me that look. It's just- just smart prep, alright?

I guess it is. But I really am used to doing things myself.

[She's so used to being proactive and pushing things forward and what not, so having to take a bit of a detour for the sake of not putting herself at risk is something she's not used to even though it's the smart thing to do]

[ To his own surprise, Alex finds himself lightly smiling. ]

Thanks. I know things're...different here, but...we're supposed to work together, I think. That'll make all of this go a lot more smoothly.

Alright. I'll do so, but you must first agree that giving me advice makes you my temporary assistant, for as long as we all have to work together.

[You can't just entrap someone like this, Misane. She's not really serious about that, thankfully, but also this is so an ambush]

Oh. I mean...I guess I could do that. It's not like I don't wanna figure out what we can about this place.

[ this is actually a great idea, alex loves to learn and obsess over things ]

Good. Welcome to the team, Alex. Your first task is to accompany me back into the horn. I was advised not to go in there alone and I should listen to my elders when they give me advice.

[Yeah no, that's almost guaranteed to get them stuck and she knows it, hah. She's joking. Also wow, eighteen isn't that much of an older person to you, Misane]

[ Alex, for a second takes this seriously, sputtering: ] Wh- no, that's a surefire way to get us in a-

[ squints. ]

Ohhhh, you're bein' a little smart-ass, aren't ya?

[ He's smirking a little. Despite it all. ]

Me? I would never be a smart-ass. I'm a serious investigator with only serious ideas. I'm docking your pay for your insult.

[Hah, okay, while in an actual crime scene investigation she'd take it with the utmost seriousness, but while she's off the clock there's no reason not to mess around a little, even if it's in her usual subdued stoic way]

I'm paying you for your performance. A good performance will net you some ice cream. A bad performance will make you have to get me some ice cream.

[Misane, either of you can go and get some from the eatery at any point, this is not a good payment plan. But then again, what else can she give, hah, she's got nothing]

There's not even an economy here.
