Week one

You've all met Athena, and she's made her point quite clear. She's fully committed to making this world better, and you're the ones who agreed to lend a hand. Something she's obviously quite thankful for.

It's really not so bad around here. Despite the sky, and the state of the land, things are fairly calm. You've got plenty of time to get used to it, and each other. Maybe this'll be easier than it seems.

I should be able to do something even during battle. I don't want to be coddled.

[Too bad, Misane, you really are not ready for fights]

Hmm...well, do you have any skill in medicine?

Some. My knowledge about this kind of thing is more forensic than for healing.

[And it's supplemented by technology, too, which she has no access to. Still, she has some decent knowledge of medicine, for her career as a detective]

Forensic?

My knowledge of medicine is more about determining the causes of someone's death.

[You don't want to have to do that in a battle, obviously!]

Oh.

Well, yes. That is probably not necessary in battle.

[It's usually pretty clear what killed people there. But also, didn't we just cover how she is not an adult human?]

....wherefore art thou doing that?

Wherefore...?

[This calf furrows her brow. Wherefore? As in, where? Why the sudden old English? She's increasingly confused. The culture shock is increasing]

Back at my world.

[Wrong answer, Misane. Apparently 'wherefore' means for what reason, not the location you do something at]

[She slips up more linguistically when she's upset or otherwise off-guard, and the disturbing implications of the child forensic investigator caught her!]

But why?

Oh.

[Wherefore indeed. Misane doesn't seem remotely alarmed, even though a girl her age really shouldn't be poking around dead bodies]

My father is an officer. I became interested in his line of work, and about a year and half ago I managed to begin my education for this career. There's not much of a deep reason.

[There's a lot children want to do because their role models do it. Misane seems to be a somewhat unusual case, but the core of her motivation still is the admiration she felt towards her father]

Ah...

[Well...a lot of foals certainly come by their cutie marks in similar ways. Though Luna usually sees such familial trends when it comes to...farming, or baking or...other careers that don't involve corpses.]

...are such apprenticeships common?

I don't think so. Some say I'm weird.

[And she couldn't care less about what people think. She made her choices and she has no regrets in the slightest]

...oh.

[She blinks.]

Well - a great many ponies think the same of me, because I am the Princess of Night. I do not think you should worry about what your own interests are!

[Though maybe the father should worry a bit more about taking his filly to crime scenes?????]

If people say you're weird they should keep that to themselves. I see nothing that should warrant such criticism.

[In fact she thinks Luna is rather pretty and interesting to look at, and also...is a princess! Of the night! Well that fits well with her colors, that's for sure. All in all, no weirdness, just a lot of coolness]

...we are quite grateful.

[Why are the humans the ones who all seem so nice about it...?]

You'd think they'd be more respectful towards a princess, too. I doubt they say it to your face, but it sounds as if they think your...interest is strange?

[Interest in the night, it seems?]

...the night is something to sleep through, at the very best. Many consider it frightening. The dark, the quiet, the creatures that call it home...

[She looks away, her wingtips flicking at her sides.]

Sounds like people who don't know how to appreciate the stars.

[Stargazing is a nice, peaceful thing to do, and you can only do it at night, of course]

They never have.

[ Her voice is unexpectedly sour, and she closes her eyes for a second. ]

Though it is better than it once was.

It was worse in the past...?

[Hearing that makes her feel real bad for Luna, truthfully. She already had her sympathies, but this sure increases them!]

When Equestria was still wild, that was when monsters would appear from the shadows beneath the trees. But that is not my fault. I kept the night as safe as I could.

[ But as the kingdom got bigger, there were really only so many places she could be. ]

That sounds more a problem of nature itself.

[Misane tilts her head, considering all she has heard, and gives her frank opinion:]

It sounds to me they were looking for a scapegoat and you were the convenient one because you're the princess of the night.

[ It's a thought she's had before. ]

...regardless. That is the typical way of things. Though I did at least attend a nice festival last year...

[ That was nice. Even if, well, it all still is centered around how frightening she can be, isn't it? Luna enjoyed Nightmare Night, but she wonders when she gets to show up as herself. ]

Festivals? What are they like where you're from?

[Horse festivals...Misane is definitely not picturing it accurately in the slightest]

There are street stalls, food, and games. Much like other festivals, I should think...what are human ones like?

[ She is absolutely dodging talking about the specifics of Nightmare Night, yes ]

The big ones are rowdy. Parades, big balloons, holograms, huge vehicles decorated with so many colors it gets you dizzy. Lots of drinking. Father says it gives him headaches because of the noise.

[And she has to agree, they're overwhelming stuff!]
