Week Six

You've survived, for lack of better wording, the latest week of trials and tribulations. This one had been more costly than most: Typhon's machinations have brought your group to nearly half the size it was when Athena first brought you to this island. Whether it ends with him or with you is still too soon to make out. One thing's for certain. Things cannot be allowed to continue as they are.

Speaking of continuing, the next floor has been revealed to you. Just how far down this island goes is a bit of a mystery, but you get the feeling that you're close to something important. Maybe that thing Athena wanted you to find before Typhon does. You can ruminate on that as you watch the waters below. Waves still lap at the cliffs, but it all seems lower than it did weeks ago. Like the ocean itself is shrinking...

How have you been faring so far?

In a manner of speaking, yes. Maybe he considered that dangling another temptation after revealing his hand last week would be too obvious. And...ordeals [ Oh. That sounded more bitter than she wanted it to be. ] are how the wicked try to drive others to do the same.

We've rationed as much as we can, and we have some possible alternate sources, but...well, it's rough. We can make it to the end of the week, but I'm not sure how much longer past that.

Did something happen at the trial, or after?

By confirming he made a private deal with Zvei [ She is not bothering with his true name, at least for now. ] and keeping his end of the agreement by restoring Zvei's memories. It seems it wasn't necessary for Zvei to get away with it, only that he sufficiently entertained Typhon.

...Which I suppose also proves that, in theory, he could have carried out any of those previous promises if someone had got away with murder. [ Yeah, she's mulled over this. More so because she knows this sort of M.O. than because it's personally tempting to her, at this point. ]

[Something subtly shifts in Aglaea's expression, a shadow enhanced by the haziness of all the spirits. She'd avoided speaking to Zvei since all of them first set foot in the Underworld, confident in keeping her anger in check but just. Not wanting to see him. After what he did to Mutsumi and Mortis, and learning what happened to Misane too...

But no matter. That's not the focus here.]

Are you confident he could have fulfilled those promises? Tapping into memories with magic is possible, and it takes power, but that's still something entirely different than turning back time or erasing moments in the past.

Ah, to be clear, I don't personally believe he could. [ At least with the benefit of hindsight. ] I'm just...familiar with this sort of tactic. They make a point of showing that they uphold their end of the agreement because it gives a sense of legitimacy. But they're no less damning.

[ She sounds...tired. After a moment, though, she also adds, ]

Thank you for the outfit, by the way. It fits wonderfully.
