Week Six

You've survived, for lack of better wording, the latest week of trials and tribulations. This one had been more costly than most: Typhon's machinations have brought your group to nearly half the size it was when Athena first brought you to this island. Whether it ends with him or with you is still too soon to make out. One thing's for certain. Things cannot be allowed to continue as they are.

Speaking of continuing, the next floor has been revealed to you. Just how far down this island goes is a bit of a mystery, but you get the feeling that you're close to something important. Maybe that thing Athena wanted you to find before Typhon does. You can ruminate on that as you watch the waters below. Waves still lap at the cliffs, but it all seems lower than it did weeks ago. Like the ocean itself is shrinking...

[He'd be thoroughly let down if she couldn't handle it. Beginning to open his mouth to quip back, the pigtailed boy is shut up by his hand reaching up to catch the other's punch in the palm. Vanity's attack doesn't go without landing, for the impact slammed the back of his hand into his own nose. It didn't bust a blood vessel, but it does have Ranma sniffing irritably.]

Fighting's not just about punchin', slowpoke.

[Releasing her hand, Ranma reels back his arm, throwing a deft haymaker aiming for Vanity's solar plexus.]

Yeah, sometimes it's about standing there doing nothing, right?

[She spins to try slapping the punch aside, taking the hit on her side. Grabbing at Ranma's arm she moves to strike up with her knee.]

Or is that part only when people are actually in danger?

[The training area will get chilly out of nowhere at the end of her sentence. Vanity'll grab Ranma's arm with no trouble, but in return, her knee'll meet a vice grip that although doesn't hurt, will keep her balancing on one foot.]

Care to repeat that?

[No anger is present in his voice. If there was, it's being heavily masked with that cold neutral tone of voice. It's more prevalent in his pale blue eyes, boring holes in the clone.]

[Vanity'll feel the grip tighten on her knee. Now it's starting to feel sore, like if it was any tighter it could dislocate her joint, only stopped by restraint. On any other day, Ranma could wave it off as dribble and taunt right back. It wasn't even clever or a proper insult. It was yet another person saying he did or didn't do this or that. Ain't like he ever expects gratitude or a thank you for anything he does.

Yet she has the gall to claim...

Vanity wants him to stop dodging?

Vanity wants him to do something?

Vanity wants to goad him into actually wiping the floor with her?

Well, ask and she shall receive.

Ranma takes a balanced, almost serene breath in through his nose...

And with lazy, nearly offhanded toss upwards, Vanity will find herself in the air about eight feet off the ground. She won't be alone, for there's Ranma, already there like he teleported preparing to drop his heel on her.]

[But in the meantime, she kicks down hard herself, spinning into a wheeling midair kick of her own against Ranma.]
