Wednesday Group Lunch

[Sometime mid-morning on Wednesday, the Eatery and Kitchen will suddenly be bustling with activity. First, the sounds of cookery start to trickle out into the hall, quickly followed by some delicious smells. If one peeks in, they might see Lebkuchen kneading dough while Cerejiera gives her some instructions on modern oven use. There are others chopping vegetables, and some point Ranma’s cooking something on the stove. Soon enough, food starts to come out and fill the table. Fresh bread and soup, various other dishes, as well as apfelstreudel and lebkuchen for dessert. To drink, there’s coffee (Vanity) and tea (Sayo) and some kind of fruity, delicious punch that combines peaches, grenadine and something almond-y, reminiscent of something familiar to at least one of you. At the same time, the table starts to be set up, plates and cups levatating through the air with alicorn magic while Aoi has been trusted with…the napkins. Once the table is mostly set, runners are sent out to invite (or strongly encourage, if needed) those missing to a lunch in the Eatery. Which is now for sure 100% safe from Rube Goldberg-esque accidents, courtesy of Alex.

So come in! Grab a seat, a drink, and some food. Time to get to know each other a little better.]

I'm from Earth. The year was 2019... Well, the calendar hasn't exactly been updated in a while. If the Earth becoming a barren, bleached wasteland doesn't mean anything to you... well, I don't really expect it to. But that would mean we're from different places.

Oh, and I'm an AI... which might not mean anything to some of you, huh...? So, um, that's a thing for my world.

I don't... really know. I don't feel mechanical? But I guess I only have a digital simulation to compare it to, anyway...

I don't feel very strong. Actually, I feel pretty weak, like usual.

A program, actually. It's called the Paper Moon.

It's an advanced map of Earth, basically, to help detect any anomalies on the planet. As well as some other features, but those are even more complicated...

I live in a simulated world inside of it. I'm one of the AI that helps maintains it... Or, I guess now I'm in charge of it...

Hah... Honestly, not a lot of things are that advanced for us back home, either. The Paper Moon's special.

Far as I know, even the caretaker barely gets how it works.

It makes the program special, I think. I'm just me.

But...if- shit, I don't know much about this stuff. But, if you're an, uh, AI, then...weren't you...programmed, too?

Mm, well. Originally I was just another identical R.A.N.I Series K AI. I don't remember anything from back then, but, um. Basically my job would've been maintenance on any of the other AIs that needed it. Keep everyone functioning as intended.

A little while ago, when the previous Central Governing AI picked a few of us to give new appearances and personalities.

We were told they'd be randomly generated. But mine got copied from a human near the system, so... Here I am.

So your code was deliberately modified to be independent- usually that's something people try to avoid with AI. Were you uploaded into this body at the same time?

No, the physical body's new. All of that was still inside a program.

I don't really know how this even works... Maybe Athena made it, or something.

Artificial Intelligence. So basically, I live in a computer.

...Not very techy yourself, I'm guessing? It's okay.

I am still learning how to operate most things. I admit, it has not been my first priority - and it all moves so quickly, too!
