Afterparty
[After the execution finishes and Wendy is dragged down into the Earth by that absolute horrific monstrosity of a creature and Typhon gives his goodbye, Quark will stand there for a long moment in the silence, before announcing, in a voice that wavers while trying to go for neutral:]
The bar’ll be open. Sitting around alone isn’t going to help anyone. [he turns to look at Ferdinand] Ferdinand, you’re with me. I need someone to move the table.
[and, taking Cerejeira’s elbow, he’s going to head out of the Arena. So...post trial, the Eatery’s been moved into bar configuration by Ferdinand and Quark. There’s been several of the extra togas gathered and folded to be used as blankets. There are snacks from the pantry brought out and placed on plates and in bowls and left out to eat. The bar is open, but so is the kitchen, if anyone wants to make something.
Both Ferdinand and Quark can be found behind the bar, the latter attempting to teach the former how to use the replicator he’s now got back there in addition to the other drink components. At least it’s keeping them busy. They’re both there to serve drinks, however.
The door is open.]

shit--]
...She sold you out.

She... She'd been in poverty for so long, forced to work and provide for herself since she was a wee lass. Even with me doing my best to help her and provide her with what food she'd let me it was still a struggle so...
[ OH YOU MEAN
LITERALLY SOLD YOU OUT-- ]
no subject
[yeah she's having that moment right now]
She sold you out, for wealth? [hey what the FUCK.] You helped her and that's how she repaid you?

[ Even in a form like this... the bitterness is palpable in her voice. Thick enough to cut with a knife. ]
She was told to bring gifts... to come in Good Company. Bring the one closest to her heart. If I'm being charitable to her I... think she might have earnestly thought it would be good for both of us. We had decided to leave Kieferberg and start a new life together... so why not start that life blessed with fortune and luxury.
...She was a blind fool. If she had told me anything instead of hiding things from me every time I asked her, I could have helped her see the truth. If she'd just--

...If I hadn't put so much trust in her to make the right decision.
[ That's what had hurt most, hadn't it?
The fool was actually her. ]

[she's quiet a moment. it's agonizing, seeing Lebkuchen like this. the anger was preferable, actually, that raw, bitter edge. seeing her deflate is so much worse.
Cerejeira takes a few steps forwards.]
She should've trusted you, too.
cw: mentions of the demon vore
I did love her... oh, how I loved her...!
[ Her hands come up to cover her face. ]
I loved her more than anything! I loved her our whole lives! I struggled under the weight of that love for so long, torn between it and this stupid habit and veil...!!
And I still-- still!! Even after all that! Even after she did nothing but watch as He tore me limb from limb and devoured every little piece of me, even as I screamed and cursed her and swore I'd never forgive her...!
[ The light shifts and contorts a little and then... she's back. Back to flesh and blood. Falling to her knees for the second time that day as she weeps, flowers blooming around her once again. ]
I still love her! And I hate it! I hate this--!!

that's what she feels. but she couldn't possibly bring herself to leave, even as her nerves are yelling at her to get out of here. how could she, after hearing that?]
...I'm sorry. It sucks-- It sucks so bad, not being able to choose what to feel.
[she takes those few extra steps and kneels down next to Lebkuchen.]
Sometimes... it's really awful, having a heart, isn't it?

...Can I?
[she doesn't want to do it without permission. but the way Cerejeira's looking at it...
it's really about time to get this thing off of her.]

...It hurts. It hurts so much. But it's also so heavy. It weighs her down like an anchor around her foot as she drowns. She'd been so close to finally being free of it before, only for it to now feel even heavier and even more impossible to remove.
But... ]

like this, so close, the scent of blood on the habit hits her again. most of the blood on herself has washed off by this point, smell hidden beneath the remains of oil. but all the same, it's weighing down on her.
how much must it be weighing down Lebkuchen?]
...There.
[she lets the veil drop to the ground, moving Lebkuchen's hair a little bit, making sure it isn't falling in her face.]

...But it's lighter. It's so much lighter now. And for a brief moment, even though she still feels the weight of the ruby red shackles on her feet and the pull of the golden leash at her neck, for a brief moment she feels... a little free.
One cage down at least.
She eventually reaches out and takes the transparent fabric into her hands. That part at least was always her own addition. A little flair to still maintain some piece of her individuality. The rest of it though she looks on with barely contained scorn... but she's smiling anyway. Radiant and warm. ]
We should... get rid of it. Otherwise I'll be tempted to hide behind it again.

[ah. that smile is... it's the first bit of brightness she's seen all day long. the clouds part, the gloom dissipating a little.
right. there's still good people, here. there's still things worth going forwards for.]
You look better without it, anyway.

You...

[she doesn't even entirely know what that means, for Lebkuchen. but she knows it's not that veil. it doesn't feel right.]

[ She looks down, a little wistfully. ]
To be honest I... don't even know who I am without that thing.
[ And then she looks up, smiling again. ]
Maybe now I can finally find out.
Thank you... Cerejeira.
