Week four

Two more of your fellow gods, your companions, your friends, have met their end together. As you turn in for the night, and a new week dawns upon you, it's starting to be a bitter experience. Just how much of this will you be forced to take?

But all isn't just despair. The morning is brighter than the last. The storm clouds that previously plagued almost every day have dissipated, and this week brings plenty of sun and a friendlier breeze. Not to mention, another floor of this strange temple has revealed itself. Whatever lies within is your domain, not Typhon's. Keep it tight in your grasp, because you never know when you'll lose it.

[Ah, the weekend continues to suck... well. Manulov will have to see how this week goes. Probably badly, still. They did get access to some new areas after last week's unpleasantness, though, so perhaps this week is the same...?

And ah, it is! How delightful. Time to give the new floor a look. And hmm...! He wanders into the channeling room first, giving it a curious once-over.]

...hm. I wonder who this is for? An oracle, perhaps? I'd think to keep wary of toxic gases, but gods exist in this world...

[hmmm... well, anyway. fuck that. once he's in the library he's done. god. actual books instead of burned scrolls. he's so blissed out. he's reading Crime and Punishment and taking notes.]

...Curious. Why is it so similar? If not for the species involved, it would barely read any differently...

Good day, Professor! [He spots the title] Are you reading up on law?

[A little dark considering their circumstances, but kinda understandable]

Ah, no, though I understand the confusion.

[it does sound a little legalistic...]

It is actually a novel in which a young man commits a murder. It is not a mystery, mind--it is more about the psychology of guilt than anything else.

Of guilt...

[he frowns, though it seems more out of thought than distaste]

Sounds a bit dreadful. Is it well written at least?

Ah, it is quite gripping, actually--though it is quite dense. I do not teach it to my introductory classes, as there is quite a bit to unpack with it all and I want to ensure the class discussions are, at the very least, interesting.

That is fair- honestly I rarely had time to read for pleasure before coming here. Perhaps I should pick it up once you are done!

Hmmm... well, are you looking for a challenge? Or would you be happier with some lighter fare? This is not a judgment, mind. I do like something a little lighter every so often as an appetizer.

Hm... I usually partake lighter fare. Something I can pick up before bed when I can not sleep.

Perhaps I will find something less cynical, then. My country's literature does tend to be a bit dour, unfortunately, though we do have a few adventure stories I may be able to find.

Oh? What is it?

[ Maybe there's a pony version? Not that she's really fully caught up on the past thousand years of literature... ]
literarybehemoth: he is neutrally looking perhaps a little curious. not particularly grumpy. (how curious.)

It is Crime and Punishment. I believe... well, Wendy mentioned hearing about it in her world, and I'm intrigued by the idea that there is simply a version for humans. I suppose the themes are reasonably universal, but at the same time, it is strange to see...

Ah! Maybe there is something like that in my world, but I do not recognize the title.

[ She probably wouldn't, though! ]

It is possible. Perhaps you ought to see if you can find it upon your return?

[...]

It could be here, as well. I have seen some things that seem as though they are from my world.

Ah! How interesting! Only fiction, or anything about our worlds themselves?

[ The latter might be interesting to read! ]

I have seen some old maps, though they were unfamiliar to me save for ones that seem similar. You will have to look and see if there is anything you recognize.

I had rather learn about everyone elses' worlds! But I suppose we might trade, if we each look.

[ She probably doesn't know enough to identify everything from everyone else's, after all! ]

Though, I suppose books from Equestria would be rather obvious.

As would books from my own world, compared to everything else I've seen. You would think there would be more variety...

[but there's a LOT of humans.]
