[he tilts his head a bit, pausing briefly, checking that there isn't anyone close--and there doesn't seem to be. So he continues, refocusing on her:] A couple'a weeks ago, you mentioned that Abyssal Exalted aren't supposed to have genuine relationships with the living.

[ Please hold, she's pushing the doll project out of the way so she can just. Slump forward onto the desktop and plant her face there. ]

[Quark folds his arms and leans on the desktop]

It's sure not makin' your job any easier.

It sure hasn't.

[ Genuinely she feels like possibly one of the only reasons another major incident hasn't happened is because the trials have been pretty miserable. ]

So what exactly is supposed to happen when you do have a genuine relationship with someone living?

[stringup]

Well...sooner or later I'll end up doing something that'll cause problems because I cared too much.

[ Whether it's because she chose to save their lives or she forgets she doesn't have a place among the living anymore. ]

Like...I don't know, some self-sacrificing bullshit or...

[ ...Nah, she doesn't even want to entertain the next thought or it'd become a self-fulfilling prophecy. So she settles for this. ]

Just. Things that are not very death-like.

So it's more about what you'll do than, say, some weird power going off because Ferdinand held your hand or something.

[That reaction makes Quark blink, sitting up a little, surprised...before he huffs, the corner of his mouth curling into a smirk, leaning back in to rest his arms on the table again]
