Week four

Two more of your fellow gods, your companions, your friends, have met their end together. As you turn in for the night, and a new week dawns upon you, it's starting to be a bitter experience. Just how much of this will you be forced to take?

But all isn't just despair. The morning is brighter than the last. The storm clouds that previously plagued almost every day have dissipated, and this week brings plenty of sun and a friendlier breeze. Not to mention, another floor of this strange temple has revealed itself. Whatever lies within is your domain, not Typhon's. Keep it tight in your grasp, because you never know when you'll lose it.

[Astarion can't help staring.

How the hell did that end up in the horn?? The book must have decided on its own to do that. What.]

You won't be getting that open. It's bound to me.

Oh. Really?

[Zvei can't help but sound disappointed, sighing as he finally stops attempting to literally pry the book open. He even has a tentacle secured around it to help with the physical effort of it, though obviously he didn't manage to get anywhere with it, or even do any damage to the book. Instead, he offers the book to Astarion. With the tentacle.]

It seems to be a truly fascinating tome! What's in it, exactly?

The Necromancy of Thay. It has all sorts of forbidden knowledge contained within it, but nothing relevant to my situation. It was disappointing, after all the effort I went to in order to learn how to read the damn thing.

What spells I did learn from it I can't even use here, to add insult to injury. One of them involves asking the dead five questions.

[He's not sure how much use it would be here, given how people have died, but it's the principle of the matter!]

Reading that tome is quite... taxing, so you'll forgive me if I don't open it up to show you.

Oh, understandable.

[He still sounds disappointed, though??]

Asking the dead questions... goodness, that really could be fascinating. Does it actually involve necromancy, or does it merely deal with the dead? As far as I'm aware, necromancy is strictly impossible in Aelios, though I'll admit I haven't looked into it.

There's all sorts of rituals in it. The ritual Cazador wanted to do is written about in great detail, as are a number of others.

I did learn how to summon ghouls from it, but that isn't exactly necromancy. They're quite useless things, only good for causing distractions.

[be glad these things were pre-banned in my app otherwise he'd be summoning them at every opportunity just to watch chaos happen]

[well damn, we could've had it all!! (no)]

Curious... I suppose even if I could get a look at it, it likely wouldn't translate to Aelios very well. Not that I'd ever use such things for anything other than scientific curiosity, of course.

[Of course.]

Perhaps not. Though honestly it isn't worth it. Certainly, it granted me power, but it didn't actually have the information I wanted.

It had no information on reversing vampirism.

[personal profile] necromants 2025-07-30 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You seek to reverse it? I suppose that makes sense, given what you've told me.

[The power likely isn't worth it to be enslaved to someone else, even if he is dead now.]

I assume you haven't had much luck in your search yet.

I do.

Though, with Cazador dead, the situation isn't so desperate.

[personal profile] necromants 2025-07-31 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Understandably so, you're no longer trapped beneath his thumb.

[...Hm.]

What do you intend to do once all of this is over?
pariunt: (pic#17954935)

[personal profile] pariunt 2025-07-31 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Go home.

I never should have come here in the first place.

[No offense to all of you. He's upset that people have died, but he doesn't plan on sticking here when things are all said and done.

Assuming he makes it out alive.]
necromants: (✂ 12)

[personal profile] necromants 2025-07-31 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you say that?

[No judgment here, it's not like he's planning on sticking around either, after all.]

[personal profile] pariunt 2025-07-31 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Leaving Tav behind, the others? I never should have done this.

It was a moment of weakness. Because after everything, I still didn't think I was strong enough.

[personal profile] necromants 2025-07-31 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
You hoped to gain more power, to better help them, then?

[Not that he can argue that, godhood certainly would be a boon to any party.]
pariunt: (pic#17954902)

[personal profile] pariunt 2025-07-31 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

To protect all of them. Tav, and the other vampire spawn. For good.

You're quite the noble person, Astarion. I hope you're able to bring your power back to them and protect them.
pariunt: (pic#17954942)

[personal profile] pariunt 2025-07-31 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
There's nothing noble about me. I'm a coward.

Were I noble, I wouldn't be here in the first place.

[personal profile] necromants 2025-07-31 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Does wanting to protect people mean nothing? Maybe your decision was wrong in that you did leave them in the short term - but maybe it wasn't. If you're able to bring power back with you when you return, if you're able to better protect them - then isn't that worth something? I think the intent to protect is still worth something.
pariunt: (pic#17954897)

[personal profile] pariunt 2025-07-31 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps so.

[...nope, he disagrees. He's been here for over two tendays. Everyone probably thinks he's dead.]

[Hmm, that sounds like a "fine, so you'll shut up" answer, but he'll let it go without pressing. Some people don't like arguing theoreticals like this, especially when it isn't theoretical for him.]

Regardless, good luck, Astarion. Let's see this through, shall we?
