It's really not so bad around here. Despite the sky, and the state of the land, things are fairly calm. You've got plenty of time to get used to it, and each other. Maybe this'll be easier than it seems.

[ He holds it out to her. ]

Is this yours? There's been some stuff that's...recognizable.

[ That magazine scrap is burning a hole in his pocket. He doesn't want to remove it. ]

[ She stares at it quietly for a few seconds before carefully reaching out and taking it in both hands. Ah yes... she recognizes that cover anywhere, even if she hasn't used it in a long time. ]

...Yes, I suppose it is.

[ She doesn't really sound uh. Enthused. ]

[ ...Yeah. He can tell that.

Softly, gently, Alex asks: ]

Do you want it back? It's...okay if you don't.

[ She thinks on it. ]

...No, I think I know what I can do with it now.

[ She tucks it carefully against herself, not caring about the dust getting on her habit. ]

Could I trouble you to walk with me for a bit?

[ Somewhat surprised, Alex nods with his mouth hanging open a little. ]

Uh, sure... You sure you want, uh, me to tag along?

Is there a reason I shouldn't?

Or is a strapping young lad like yourself really going to leave a delicate flower like to me to fend for herself?

Wh- no. No, I- I mean- I'm not- not saying that, you're a delicate flower, you said that- fuuuuck, I jus' mean 'cause we don' really know each other, not for any other reason, y'know?

[ oh she has. completely caught him off-guard. ]

[ She just starts giggling at him. ]

[ She’s going to start walking now. ]

You know, there weren’t any boys around my age in the village. I only grew up around other girls.

[ Ah- following! With his long legs he catches up pretty immediately but he paces himself so they're walking alongside one another. ]

Really? Your village is that small?

It is, yes. The kind of place where everyone knows each other, for better or for worst.

Though it’s not like there were many girls around my age either. There were only two others, and I was the eldest one.

That sounds...kind of lonely.

Does it? It’s hard for me to really gauge - it’s all I’ve ever known after all.

I just mean... You never get the chance to meet anyone new. You know?

It’s all right, I see what you mean.

And you’re right… honestly this is my first time ever meeting so many new people at once.

It’s a little… overwhelming. I’m never certain how I should act.

...Yeah. I was...pretty isolated for awhile, and, even to me... It's feels...crowded. Even with all the space.

[ He takes a moment, turns this over in his mind. ]

Yeah. Not...how you're supposed to. How you should. How everyone, I dunno, expects you to, or whatever.

Then... I guess maybe... That's what you should do first. Figure out what that is, what- what you'd want to do, or...or be.

...Yes, I suppose you're right. That probably should be it.

[ They're almost at the fire now, or at least almost to the closest distance Alex is willing to go. ]

...I think I know a good place to start with that though.
