Week one
You've all met Athena, and she's made her point quite clear. She's fully committed to making this world better, and you're the ones who agreed to lend a hand. Something she's obviously quite thankful for.
It's really not so bad around here. Despite the sky, and the state of the land, things are fairly calm. You've got plenty of time to get used to it, and each other. Maybe this'll be easier than it seems.

Doesn't work like that. Sorry. You're gonna have to cook if you want any... D'you say snail steaks?
[ He is, for the record, a lot less...wound up than yesterday. Still carrying an overwhelming aura of anxiety, but more down-to-earth. ]

And yeah, I did. It's a popular dish! I usually get it once a week or so. It's more an evening kinda dish, but I was just hoping to get anything at all out of this thing. [he eyes Alex, tilting his head in question]
But apparently it doesn't work like that, huh? So how does it work?

[ He strolls on in. ]
Whatcha gotta do is make it yourself. You're saying input screen like- like that's s'pposed to do all the work for you? But if you wanted your...snail steak, you'd take a raw, uh, snail, and cook it up, in like...the oven, or microwave.
[ jesus kid do not talk about microwaving anything with the word "steak" in it you fucking gremlin ]

[he huffs, sulky, and waves a hand at the various stuff that's still strewn around the kitchen]
So this is more like the thing Sisko likes to do. Making food without a replicator on a couple thermal plates.

Alright, calm down, calm down, don't get all up in arms. If it's anything like learning BASIC, yeah, okay, sounds like your fancy future screens got their own quirks to work out.
[ hah. quirks, quark... ]
Thermal plates and shit like that sure does sound like cooking.

[though he huffs a bit at that question]
Definitely not. Do you know how hard it would've been to cook for an entire freighter like that? We'd have had to carry around way too much extra supplies, and then we would've had to dump cargo. Better to take the time to hand-code a recipe than waste that space.

I can't imagine why anyone would want their pockets to be hot, and what some kinda wave would have to do with that.

Time for a lesson on ancient culture, Quark. Come on, let's see... [ Alex digs around in the cold storage and... ] Aha! Hot...pita. Huh. 'Kay, it'll work.
no subject
And what's a hot pita exactly?
no subject
This! It's a cold pita right now, but what you do is...
[ Walk up to the microwave. Enter the time. ...Take a very big step back and reach out with one stretched out finger to hit the power button (this one is just an Alex thing) and brrrrrrrr. ]
Wait 'til it's done cookin', and then you eat it.

And this is how hyu-mons of your time cook most of their food or what?

If we had a replicator, I'd be a great chef.
