You've all met Athena, and she's made her point quite clear. She's fully committed to making this world better, and you're the ones who agreed to lend a hand. Something she's obviously quite thankful for.

It's really not so bad around here. Despite the sky, and the state of the land, things are fairly calm. You've got plenty of time to get used to it, and each other. Maybe this'll be easier than it seems.

Nay, I think not! I have not needed any such thing thus far!

But, if these are the sorts of weapons used in this place, any enemies we face may wield them as well. We must also train to fight against them! Do you use them?

Not at all. I'd sooner try to find a shield than a sword.

[Her skills are brainy, not brawny!]

[Her horn glows again, and she just lifts all of the training stuff up so that it's easier to see everything! You know like a regular person]

Oh, there are...!

[Soon Misane grabs the sturdiest shield she can find. It's a training shield, so it's not very sturdy like a real shield would -- and therefore much lighter, so hey, she has no trouble lifting it. The problem is the size. Misane is a short gal, and at the end of the day she still is just fifteen. She probably could huddle under the shield and that'd be more effective than her trying to use it like a real warrior would]

Try to hit it.

Oh! Well...if you like...

[Luna is less sure that this is a good idea! But, that is how shields work. She elects to pick up another training sword, rather than try with magic or hooves, and holds it only by the hilt this time; she does know that's the idea. Without using a great deal of force, she swings the blade at the shield!]

[Even that measured hit makes Misane step back because she's so unused to this stuff and although she braced for this, the impact rattled her a little. For a moment there's silence, until she peeks over the shield]

I'm starting to consider being away from the frontlines altogether may be a better choice.

It may be. Are you still considered a...

[What do humans use. Probably not "foal". What's closest to a human, a minotaur?]

...yes. Pretty much. I still have plenty of growing up to do.

[Misane decides that in the spirit of interspecies cooperation, she'll accept Luna's idiosyncracies, interpreting this as the term Luna would normally use for a child. Shouldn't it be 'foal', though, she thinks for a moment]

[Hrm. She'd heard already that some number of the humans were considered young - though she doesn't have an exact year-count - but hearing it directly from one of them is another matter. Athena should not have.]

The rest of us shall handle any combat that occurs, then! It is not right for foals - hm. Young to see battle.

[It happens, she knows full well. But now she is grown, so.]

I should be able to do something even during battle. I don't want to be coddled.

[Too bad, Misane, you really are not ready for fights]

Hmm...well, do you have any skill in medicine?

Some. My knowledge about this kind of thing is more forensic than for healing.

[And it's supplemented by technology, too, which she has no access to. Still, she has some decent knowledge of medicine, for her career as a detective]

My knowledge of medicine is more about determining the causes of someone's death.

[You don't want to have to do that in a battle, obviously!]

Well, yes. That is probably not necessary in battle.

[It's usually pretty clear what killed people there. But also, didn't we just cover how she is not an adult human?]

Wherefore...?

[This calf furrows her brow. Wherefore? As in, where? Why the sudden old English? She's increasingly confused. The culture shock is increasing]

[Wrong answer, Misane. Apparently 'wherefore' means for what reason, not the location you do something at]

[She slips up more linguistically when she's upset or otherwise off-guard, and the disturbing implications of the child forensic investigator caught her!]

[Wherefore indeed. Misane doesn't seem remotely alarmed, even though a girl her age really shouldn't be poking around dead bodies]

My father is an officer. I became interested in his line of work, and about a year and half ago I managed to begin my education for this career. There's not much of a deep reason.

[There's a lot children want to do because their role models do it. Misane seems to be a somewhat unusual case, but the core of her motivation still is the admiration she felt towards her father]

[Well...a lot of foals certainly come by their cutie marks in similar ways. Though Luna usually sees such familial trends when it comes to...farming, or baking or...other careers that don't involve corpses.]

...are such apprenticeships common?

I don't think so. Some say I'm weird.

[And she couldn't care less about what people think. She made her choices and she has no regrets in the slightest]

Well - a great many ponies think the same of me, because I am the Princess of Night. I do not think you should worry about what your own interests are!

[Though maybe the father should worry a bit more about taking his filly to crime scenes?????]

If people say you're weird they should keep that to themselves. I see nothing that should warrant such criticism.

[In fact she thinks Luna is rather pretty and interesting to look at, and also...is a princess! Of the night! Well that fits well with her colors, that's for sure. All in all, no weirdness, just a lot of coolness]

You'd think they'd be more respectful towards a princess, too. I doubt they say it to your face, but it sounds as if they think your...interest is strange?
