Bar Mingle: Week 2

Every evening at dusk (unless, for some reason, Quark is indisposed,) the Eatery transforms into Quark's Bar. The table becomes a bartop with chairs lined up on one side. Some of the extra chairs are placed along the wall behind the bar as a makeshift bench for ingredients, glasses, ice, and anything else. There are bowls of peanuts placed on top of the bar for free snacking. On one end of the bar there's a selection of pastries, fresh-baked by Lebkuchen, who might also be there.

As of Monday, there are some new additions to the bar. On one end of the table is a interesting look board game. Next to it is a plate of lebkuchen, left out for a specific bunch of fuzzy creatures that seem to like them.. In another corner is a roulette-esque kind of game.

In the rafters, there's a whole swarm of Zubats now, and one or two of them might come down to say hello. If they do, Quark is shooing them away again, but they only go back up to the ceiling.


Outside the door to the Eatery is a sign, handwritten, and further inside, the menu tacked up in a couple places behind the bar:

[ He opens and closes his mouth, as if trying to grasp for something to say. When nothing comes, he just sighs and sets the container on the bar in front of him. ]

[that'll make him blink, looking down at the box]

For you. I dunno if raw's like, not kosher or whatever. But...you seem like you need 'em way more than me.

[latinumsbetter]

[??? That'll earn him a curious, if confused, look. He reaches out to tug the box over, peeking under the lid--at which point, his face actually brightens a bit]

Slugs! And they're fresh, by the looks of it.

[he glances up at Alex at that]

What do you want for 'em?

[rockymountaindie]

[ And, perhaps surprisingly, Alex shakes his head. ]

Nothin'.

[latinumsbetter]

Nothing? [Quark looks affronted for a moment, before he sighs heavily, dramatically]

Alex, you were doing alright last time--

It's a gift, a'right? You still got those in Ferengi culture, right?

[latinumsbetter]

Sure. I sold my little brother's on his name day and earned more than my father had purchased them for, to the delight of my parents.

[ staring into the camera like hes on the fucking office ]

Well in my culture. Sometimes when we 'ppreciate someone, or just wanna...make 'em feel better. We give 'em a gift. No strings. No selling.

[latinumsbetter]

[Quark tsks at that, but he does put the lid back on the box and pick it up off the bar]

Well, I suppose I can humor your hyu-mon culture, just this once.

[rockymountaindie]

Thank you. [ ...usually the person receiving the gift would be saying that, but ]

[latinumsbetter]

You're welcome. [just throwing that tone right back at him]

It's too bad we don't have a replicator. I could fry these up and it'd make quite the snack. [he shakes his head] They're not bad raw, but as far as I can tell, hyu-mons don't really appreciate that nice sliminess you get from slugs and snails.

[rockymountaindie]

[ It's a gift, so he's not going to be a brat about this, but Alex does wrinkle his nose a little. ]

You would be correct.

[ A beat. ]

Well. Mostly. Slugs, no, but...some other countries serve snails. They call 'em a delicacy.

[latinumsbetter]

Now there's a smart country. [he's managing some of his usual cheekiness] They're also a delicacy on Ferenginar. [and, because he thinks it might make Alex wrinkle his nose even more:] You can slurp them right out of the shells.

[rockymountaindie]

[ He does! It's like a trick! ]

Ya know, Quark, that's the other thing about gifts, here I am doin' somethin' nice for ya and you're being a real bastard.

[latinumsbetter]

[...alright, he barks out a laugh at that]

Bit too much for you? Fine, fine. [he waves a hand] I won't get on your case about the slugs anymore. What're you drinkin'?

[rockymountaindie]

[ ...oh right this is a bar. uhhhh- ]

Sssame as last time.

[latinumsbetter]

Same as last time it is. [he turns his back to Alex, mixing him the same drink as before: lemon and grapefruit juice and tea over ice. He pops a straw in there and turns back to him, setting it on the bar.]

One Safe-tea, on the rocks.

[rockymountaindie]

A Safe... [ Alex rolls his eyes. ] Oh, ha ha, real funny.

[latinumsbetter]

[Quark smirkes, widely, clearly proud of himself]

I'll be here all week.

[rockymountaindie]

Uh huh. Good. You should stick to bartending, not stand-up.

[latinumsbetter]

Hey, I can do both! It's part of my charm.

[rockymountaindie]

[ He takes a sip of his drink. ] Mmmm. No, definitely focus on this one. Man, I don't know if I've had anything but water in months.

[latinumsbetter]

Lucky I'm here, then. Water's nice and all but it can get really boring.
