Bar Mingle: Week 2

Every evening at dusk (unless, for some reason, Quark is indisposed,) the Eatery transforms into Quark's Bar. The table becomes a bartop with chairs lined up on one side. Some of the extra chairs are placed along the wall behind the bar as a makeshift bench for ingredients, glasses, ice, and anything else. There are bowls of peanuts placed on top of the bar for free snacking. On one end of the bar there's a selection of pastries, fresh-baked by Lebkuchen, who might also be there.

As of Monday, there are some new additions to the bar. On one end of the table is a interesting look board game. Next to it is a plate of lebkuchen, left out for a specific bunch of fuzzy creatures that seem to like them.. In another corner is a roulette-esque kind of game.

In the rafters, there's a whole swarm of Zubats now, and one or two of them might come down to say hello. If they do, Quark is shooing them away again, but they only go back up to the ceiling.


Outside the door to the Eatery is a sign, handwritten, and further inside, the menu tacked up in a couple places behind the bar:

...Well, not like the System Grail War was really like this. Still, though. I don't want to go through that another time.

System Grail War.

...Oh. Right, sorry, I'm used to being somewhere where literally everyone just knows what that is?

It was, uh... well, it was supposed to be this ritual to make sure the Paper Moon would function as intended? Basically an AI of every section would be picked as a Master, and they would summon a Servant to fight on their behalf. The winner would get to be the next Central Governing AI and they'd get to customize the world however they wanted.

And by Servant, you mean....?

Uh, like... man, "familiar" probably wouldn't mean anything to you... They're like magically summoned versions of famous heroes and stuff like that. Warriors to fight our battles, since most of the AI weren't really equipped to fight.

Like... if someone like Ferdinand got famous enough to have stories and legends written about him, I could've summoned him.

And you can just...summon people like that?

"Just" implies that it's easy, but, uh, yeah. That happened. It's a whole magecraft thing.

...Anyway, uh. I won.

...you won. Which is why you're in charge now, huh?

Yeah.

...Because I was the only participating AI that lived through the whole thing.

That whole not-wanting-the-responsibility thing, huh?

...There's a little more to it than that. I don't think I should really be in charge of anything.

But it's just-- the worst part of it all, is no one needed to die. Most of us never even wanted to fight each other. At least... not... not like that.

...right. That's usually the case in these sorts'a things, isn't it? [not to say that HE'D normally be some kind of troublemaker here but even this is too much for him--]

...Maybe it won't happen.

[but she's not a glass half full type. she can't really sit here and just, what? hope for the best?]

...yeah. Maybe. [he frowns, swirling the ice and the remaining drink in his glass, obviously not incredibly convinced. But definitely thinking About All That.]

...I could throw some kinda party this week in the bar.

...A party?

[huh?]

Sure. With drinks and food and games and maybe I can get that Ai girl to sing something. Y'know, make people feel better. Happy people usually feel less murderous, right?

[murchada]

...Well, I have a pretty small sample size to compare to. But... I guess, yeah.

[she has her doubts about how effective this will be. still, the hell else are they going to do?]

It's worth a shot.

Better than nothing. [the bar is so low]

Gotta love a step up from the bare minimum, right?

[see, we got... we got jokes. we're so good.]

[he does huff at that, almost a laugh]

It's not where I normally like to live, personally. But we don't have much choice here.
