Bar Mingle: Week 2

Every evening at dusk (unless, for some reason, Quark is indisposed,) the Eatery transforms into Quark's Bar. The table becomes a bartop with chairs lined up on one side. Some of the extra chairs are placed along the wall behind the bar as a makeshift bench for ingredients, glasses, ice, and anything else. There are bowls of peanuts placed on top of the bar for free snacking. On one end of the bar there's a selection of pastries, fresh-baked by Lebkuchen, who might also be there.

As of Monday, there are some new additions to the bar. On one end of the table is a interesting look board game. Next to it is a plate of lebkuchen, left out for a specific bunch of fuzzy creatures that seem to like them.. In another corner is a roulette-esque kind of game.

In the rafters, there's a whole swarm of Zubats now, and one or two of them might come down to say hello. If they do, Quark is shooing them away again, but they only go back up to the ceiling.


Outside the door to the Eatery is a sign, handwritten, and further inside, the menu tacked up in a couple places behind the bar:

Computer Graphics. They're the artwork you get for triggering events and completing routes in a visual novel. Aoi was made to collect as many as possible.

Some of them are sex scenes. Some are just important things Aoi did with other characters in the game. Like getting a hairpin or having lunch on the roof of the school.

[She takes another gulp of her Bloody Mary.]

The CGs charge my battery so I can still exist in the game. But Aoi feels...a little different here. Is it because Athena's game is safe for work? Or is it because everybody else is from reality?

Honestly? I got no idea. The one person I know that's like you even a little bit can only stay in the holosuite.

[he pauses for a moment, as if wondering whether he should actually ask this]

It doesn't matter if Aoi likes it or not.

Aoi was made by God to fall in love and fuck as many protagonists as possible. That's all. I wasn't supposed to look for anything else.

[Her voice is empty and emotionless, but something in her eyes seems sad.]

[People here have told Aoi that what God wants from her isn't as important anymore. Vanity had been angry at her for accepting the rules as they were.

The last time Aoi wanted something...Aoi really messed up. It's why my last game never reached the happy ending.

Because you can't save and reload in real life?

[Aoi considers. It's not as if a game doesn't remember updates that were made, and the files last unless you reset everything, don't they?]

But that also means...Aoi's memories won't get erased either. They're supposed to disappear when I end up in a new world, but something glitched again.

Exactly. No do-overs. Unless, y'know, time travel happens, but even then, you gotta be really careful to try and not disrupt anything.
