Week four

Two more of your fellow gods, your companions, your friends, have met their end together. As you turn in for the night, and a new week dawns upon you, it's starting to be a bitter experience. Just how much of this will you be forced to take?

But all isn't just despair. The morning is brighter than the last. The storm clouds that previously plagued almost every day have dissipated, and this week brings plenty of sun and a friendlier breeze. Not to mention, another floor of this strange temple has revealed itself. Whatever lies within is your domain, not Typhon's. Keep it tight in your grasp, because you never know when you'll lose it.

Thanks. [he watches Ferdie interact with Derick, and watches Derick fly off again, contemplatively, before he's turning to follow him in. He jogs a bit to catch up]

Say, here's a question. How hard is it to learn to ride one of those things?

Just ride? Hm. Harder than a horse but not unmanageable, assuming it is already trained. We had flying lessons in the Officer's Academy, so even a teenager could do so with time.

Battle is different of course, but when is it ever not?

How hard is learning to ride a horse? Just for comparison's sake. [he has also never ridden a horse]

Very easy!

[ spoilers: Ferdinand's idea of what is "easy" may be colored by having a natural boon in horseback riding.]

The horse does most of the work. I would not try to ride the horses in the stables yet, but I could probably get you on Liora if you were curious.

[ said as he walks into the bathroom and sets to washing up]

I was just thinking of some people that would find them very interesting.

[ he snickers slightly at that- it doesn't surprise him at all. He can picture the horse shifting wrong and Quark yelling that high pitched scream of his and - WHOOSH - off into the woods they both go.]

Someone here or back in your home?

[he catches that snicker. That'll get a dry from Quark for it, but he'll let it go. They're both probably thinking the same thing on that one, to be honest.] Back home. They're fascinating creatures, I could certainly imagine several people wanting one.

[ several people, but not anyone specific. Hm. Ferdinand may be flippant with his own money, but he DID grow up in a port, after all. He tilts his head for Quark to lead the way to whatever task he had in mind as they talk]

Well, my father once told me that outside land there is no better investment than a good horse. She will pay for herself in labor quickly, and even kept as a hobby they are easy to maintan. Assuming one was well off enough to manage the space they need to graze, of course.

A man that can spare the land for a fine herd of horses shows himself as one who who is well in control of his means. Certainly not lacking for gold or respect.

S'that so. [he's going to definitely make a note of that] And what do they say about people who have something like Derick?

[ his chipper demenor darkens slightly]

Wyverns are for war. Expensive- they do not breed in captivity and only eat fresh meat. But no one would keep one for pleasure. A wyvern rider is only for killing

[ he shakes his head with a slight sigh. He loves Derick, but he knows exactly what the beast is for. What he is for, now.

Or was? He tries not to think about it]

But-! They are VERY good at it. If you know anyone with such a need.

I'm pretty sure the Klingons would love them. Though you'd have a hard time fitting one on a ship, so they'd probably be mosty planet-side.

[he is glancing at him out of the corner of his eye, though. A wyvern rider is only for killing, huh?]

Indeed! They need wide free skies.

[ he turns, catching the glance and feeling too seen]

But I know you did not come to talk mounts. What can I do for you, my friend?

[He catches that subject change, and for now he'll go right along with it.]

There's this sculputure in Alex's room. He said that Clear made it, and that it was supposed to be him.

I figured...it won't do much good to sit in his room, it'd be better out here next to his statue.

Ah...

[Grief flickers on his face. Alex. Wendy. Clear- a young woman he would never meet. The weight of the weekend hits deep anytime he's not distracting himself. He nods]

Of course. It would only be proper.

Yeah. I thought so.

I figured beween the two of us, or mostly you, we could get it out there easily enough.

I AM very strong, after all.

[ It's nice though- there are others here just as strong or stronger than him in pure strength. Omega could probably pick it up one handed. But it's nice to be needed]

Strong enough to move this thing, at least. [There's a hint of amusement at the corner of his mouth]

If Alex and I could do it together, you should have no problem.

[he must admit, even as sad as the reason is, he's curious]

[GREAT Quark will head over to Alex's room and let himself in, leaving the door open as he gestures to the sculpture in the corner.]

That's it, there. He didn't want anything happening to it, but didn't know what to do with it, so we put it here for now.

[It was absolutely not what he expected. This is supposed to be of Alex? He can see the human form in it, yes. But it is quite abstract.

...yet he can sense a kind of pain from it. Maybe he's projecting so soon after their friend's death.]

[ looking at the sculpture with that in mind he quickly finds his eyes watering.]

It's fine. We're not in a rush, here. [gruffly, and if he's blinking a bit too much himself, he's not about to say so.]

I am... not unused to seeing people die. People I knew better and just as gruesomely.

[ they all had the same look in their eyes as Alex did too. Regardless of if he was pumping magical healing into them or pushing them off his lance. 'Please, not like this']

But... it really was too unfair. It makes it all much worse to accept.

...yeah. Probably not a bad thing. It should be hard to accept.
