You've all met Athena, and she's made her point quite clear. She's fully committed to making this world better, and you're the ones who agreed to lend a hand. Something she's obviously quite thankful for.

It's really not so bad around here. Despite the sky, and the state of the land, things are fairly calm. You've got plenty of time to get used to it, and each other. Maybe this'll be easier than it seems.

Aoi used a knife once! For a stir fry. ...it didn't taste good. But Aoi didn't cut off any fingers!

[That said, her zuccini chopping is going veeery slowly and very uneven. She's not winning any awards for it.

...also she's completely forgotten about the pot she left in the sink to fill with water so that's still going.]

What do you do? [Aoi offers the knife to Leb, a bit of excitement bleeding into her tiny voice.]

[ Oh thank goodness, yeah she's taking that knife and the zucchini. ]

I'm-- I grew up in my granny's bakery. She started teaching me as soon as I could walk.

[ She's going to start slicing the zucchini with an expert amount of precision and care - the kind you get from many years of slicing apples, nuts, and other such things daily. ]

I even helped run the place when her age started to make that difficult.

A bakery, huh? [he sounds curious, shoving some of the extra pots and the eggplant out of the way...and maybe the motion accidentally pushes one of hand towels on the still-red burner]

So you've got sales experiece?

[Aoi looks so impressed at Leb's technique.]

You're a professional! And you bake? ...wow...

[She might be a little enamored.

Forgetting about the cooking operation for a moment, Aoi turns her head over to Quark.]

Is there anybody here to even sell stuff too?

[The towel sits on the burner, ominously smoldering...]

[ This is easily the most "at ease" Leb has been since this all started. ]

I do, though granny is the one usually handling that. When your legs don't carry you as well as they used to minding a shop counter is much easier than taking heavy trays of baked goods in and out of the oven.

[ With Kieferberg's size they only really need to make their morning batches before she heads to church so it worked out well enough.

...Also yeah her ass also ain't noticing the rag, she's too focused on using the knife ]

Of course there is. We're all here, aren't we? [Obviously!] What we need first is a form of currency, and then we can establish a market.

[he smirks a little, widening towards a grin]

If you wanna make some of that bread, Leb, I'm sure practically everyone'd line up to buy a slice.

Well, that was the plan when I came in here... but I can't say for certain how well it'll come out in an oven like this...

[ She finishes the zucchini, pushing aside the neat and uniform slices... and then pauses ]

Speaking of, is that the oven I smell now?

One way to find out, isn't there? We could do a test run later or something!

[he's immeasurably cheerful at the thought of a possible new profit venture (once there's a currency to make a profit on). Though at that comment from Leb he pauses]

Smell what now? [he asks, just as he's turning to shove aside the eggplant--when his eye catches on the black smoke now rising from the rag atop the burner...just as that smoke turns into flame.

Quark's eyes widen and he's stumbling back away from it, shrieking in terror. Literally. There may not be a fire alarm here, but with Quark, they hardly need one.]

[She lets out a gasp of startling when the rag bursts into flames.]

-! Aoi did it again?

[ OH GOODNESS THAT'S LOUD

Leb briefly shrieks as well, more so because Quark is already doing so, but thankfully she's seen fire before so she should know what to do--

...keyword on should. But there's so much here that's foreign to her that her brain has frozen, completely forgetting about the water in the pot. ]

[okay the screaming is hard to miss. against her better judgment, Cerejeira rushes into the kitchen to see what the hell is oh god that's smoke]

What on earth are you all doing? Are you trying to burn the kitchen down?

[Quark's head swivels around towards Cerejiera as she comes in, eyes wide and frantic]

Of course we're not trying to--it did that on its own! [his voice is climbing up the octave, gesturing wildely as the fire spreads to some paper napkins next and is looking like it's heading towards the coffee filters ] Make it go away!

Aoi was teaching Quark and Leb how the oven works.

[Speaking of which that oven is still OPEN AOI YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING.]

Boop boop! The noodle water!

[Aoi goes back to the sink to grab the pot of water...

...however, she sure did let it get too full, so it instantly becomes too heavy for her and clatters to the floor, water everywhere along with whatever else Quark left on the floor.]

Oh.

[ OH IT'S SPREADING REALLY FAST OH NO, RIGHT THE WATER-- oh there it goes ]

A-Aoi...! [ Please note that when Leb says it in such a panic as this it comes out more like "Owie". ] Be careful...!

[ She has enough sense to put the knife down but. Oh no. Okay. We need something else for water. She's looking around but-- ]

[okay jesus christ are we here to save this world or make it die FASTER]

Just... Just stay calm, everyone, I'll show you how to turn the burner off.

It's only a small fire, we can contain it quickly if no one panics—

[ It's like he's summoned. For the record, everyone, his god ability isn't some billshit about chaos sensing, but you would be forgiven for thinking as much, as at that exact moment, Alex runs in, sweaty and panicked and carrying...a bucket of water? ]

[ With a mighty heavy, the bucket goes flying. ...Mmmmostly in the direction of the fire? But his hands are shaking something fierce, so it may also get on some of the other inhabitants of the kitchen. ]

[Quark definitely hears Alex coming, but,]

Don't panic?! The kitchen's on--

[Oh Blessed Exchequer THAT IS A TEENAGER WITH A BUCKET Quark throws himself backwards with a screech just as the bucket is released. Fortunately for him, it means he only gets his sleeve wet with flying water--but it also means that he slips on some of the water already on the floor from the pot Aoi spilled, stumbling, arms flailing as he tries to right himself...at which point his other foot catches on the secondary zucchini which, having rolled off the counter in all the kerfluffle, has decided that it wants to make a home under Quark's boot.

Now, if this were someone like Ranma or Vanity or someone else with fighting martial arts skills, they would be able to recover from this. Quark, unfortunately, is neither of the above. As a result, stepping on the zucchini makes him pitch wildly backwards as his foot slips out from under him. He flails with another high-pitched shriek, tumbling back, his back slamming into the corner of the cold storage, which hurts. His hands scramble on the edge of the fridge and the counter, managing to bring himself to a stop before he falls further, but he ends up awkwardly clutching at both, eyes wide, back throbbing]

[Aoi, meanwhile, bends down to grab the pot of water, and addresses Leb when she stands back up.]

Aoi's okay--

[And she immediately gets splashed in the crossfire, ending up drenched along with the towel and several napkins.]
