It's really not so bad around here. Despite the sky, and the state of the land, things are fairly calm. You've got plenty of time to get used to it, and each other. Maybe this'll be easier than it seems.

[ When Alex finds Lebkuchen she's once again standing in front of her statue, the flowers around her feet flourishing. Her hands are neatly joined in front of her skirt and this time she seems to be looking at the statue itself rather than just the plaque. ]

[ Ah, the creepy statues... Alex grimaces a little as he spies his own, but he wipes it off his face easily enough, clearing his throat. ]

Uhhh, Le- Lebku- um- [ aw fuck he can't say it. ] Hi?

[brokenhabit]

Oh! [ She stands up a little straighter. ] Hello.

It's Alex, right? You can just say Leb if it's easier.

[rockymountaindie]

[ Nodding to her own question, first, and. ] You sure? I think I can get it if you say it for me.

[brokenhabit]

[ She's about to insist it's all right but then pauses and thinks about it.

... ]

...All right.

Lebkuchen.

[ She says it a little more slowly to help him try and get it. ]

[rockymountaindie]

Lebkuchen. Leb-ku-chen, Lebkuchen.

[ He repeats a few times. Nods to himself. ]

Thanks. I'm sure I'm not the only one havin' trouble, but... If we're gonna be uh, working together, I at least wanna try getting everyone's names kind of right.

I appreciate it. I really don't mind the nickname, truly, but...

You know maybe a bit of honesty about this is Fine, Actually. ]

Well, only one person ever called me that back home.

[ He has no context or basis or anything but that sounds vaguely Sad. So. ]

[ She then tilts her head a little, spying something under his arm. Uh oh. That looks familiar. ]

Now, what did you need?

[ But she has an idea... ]

Oh, well. [ Yeah here comes the dusty bible. ] I don't wanna...assume? But, uh, the big...horn in the middle of everything, it sort of...it spits things out when you give it those tokens, and...

[ He holds it out to her. ]

Is this yours? There's been some stuff that's...recognizable.

[ That magazine scrap is burning a hole in his pocket. He doesn't want to remove it. ]

[ She stares at it quietly for a few seconds before carefully reaching out and taking it in both hands. Ah yes... she recognizes that cover anywhere, even if she hasn't used it in a long time. ]

...Yes, I suppose it is.

[ She doesn't really sound uh. Enthused. ]

[rockymountaindie]

[ ...Yeah. He can tell that.

Softly, gently, Alex asks: ]

Do you want it back? It's...okay if you don't.

[brokenhabit]

[ She thinks on it. ]

...No, I think I know what I can do with it now.

[ She tucks it carefully against herself, not caring about the dust getting on her habit. ]

Could I trouble you to walk with me for a bit?

[rockymountaindie]

[ Somewhat surprised, Alex nods with his mouth hanging open a little. ]

Uh, sure... You sure you want, uh, me to tag along?

Is there a reason I shouldn't?

Or is a strapping young lad like yourself really going to leave a delicate flower like to me to fend for herself?

[ ...

uh oh

that's the teasing voice ]

Wh- no. No, I- I mean- I'm not- not saying that, you're a delicate flower, you said that- fuuuuck, I jus' mean 'cause we don' really know each other, not for any other reason, y'know?

[ oh she has. completely caught him off-guard. ]

[ She just starts giggling at him. ]

Well, it’s a good way to get to know each other then, isn’t it?

[ And then a little more seriously: ]

It’s only to the bonfire. It won’t take long.

[ Embarrassment dries up as Alex grimaces. ]

I... Sure. Just...don't get too close to it.

[ The advisement is weak for more than one reason. ]

[ She’s going to start walking now. ]

You know, there weren’t any boys around my age in the village. I only grew up around other girls.

[rockymountaindie]

[ Ah- following! With his long legs he catches up pretty immediately but he paces himself so they're walking alongside one another. ]

Really? Your village is that small?

It is, yes. The kind of place where everyone knows each other, for better or for worst.

Though it’s not like there were many girls around my age either. There were only two others, and I was the eldest one.
